Letters Stiles E. Forsha to his wife Adeline Stanley Forsha, brother-in-law Isaac Stanley, brother Alexander, and other family members. The letters depict the life a Union officer and military operations in 1861-1863, including siege of Corinth, Miss. (1862). Also included is a manuscript memoir signed "Pioneer" recounting the author's journey from Fort Kearny (Neb.) to Black Hills (S. D.), via Fort Sidney, Neb. The memoir was written by Adeline Stanley Forsha in ca. 1877.

During the Civil War, Stiles E. Forsha served as Lieutenant of Co. I of the 7th Iowa Regiment. In Aug. 2, 1861 he was appointed Quartermaster, and in Nov. 1862, Commissary of Subsistence of the United States Volunteers. After the war the Forsha family moved West and ended up in Southern California. Stiles E. Forsha died in Pasadena in 1911. From the description of Papers of Stiles E.
