Collection of private and public papers accumulated by various members of the Hastings and related families. Personal religious papers include prayers, meditation, sermons, scriptural notes, etc., mostly relating to Lucy (Davies) Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon, and Theophilus, the 7th Earl of Huntingdon. The papers concerning ecclesiastical matters of public interest, both and local and national, relate to various aspects of religious life in England. Included are: a copy of the "Bill for the Reformation of the Ecclesiastical Lawes" (1559); a volume containing a defense of the conduct of Puritan ministers, legal papers concerning ecclesiastical affairs, including those of Catholic Recusants and Quakers; copies of Parliamentary acts and bills concerning religion; a "Copie of the paper found in King Charles II's strong box concerning controversy" (1685), etc.

Theophilus Hastings, 7th Earl of Huntingdon (1650-1701), Tory and Royalist politician. Under James II, he held offices of Chief Justice in Eyre South of the Trent, and Lord Lieutenant of Leictershire and Derbyshire.
