The 3rd Duke of Chandos, James Brydges (1732-1789), a prominent Whig politician and courtier, married Anne Eliza (Gamon) Elletson, the daughter of Richard Gamon and widow of Roger Hope Elletson, Governor of Jamaica (1766-1767) and owner of the Hope and Middleton plantations there.
