Major Jouett, U.S. Indian agent, writes from Chicago to William Eustis, U.S. Secretary of War, reporting on the past quarter and advising of the British Michilimackinac Company's erection of a fort at the mouth of the St. Peter's River (Minnesota River), a possible act of aggression by monopolizing the area's fur trade.
