Correspondence, memoranda, reports, brochures, articles, clippings, and financial records of this company formed in 1932 to promote and develop water transportation routes in the Mississippi Valley. The records give information on development and use of the nine-foot Mississippi River channel, federal regulations, competition with railroads, Minneapolis harbor facilities, relations with other interested groups and individuals, promotional activities, water supply and usage problems, industrial development in river communities, attitudes of various U.S. congressmen, and distribution of barges and war production plants during World War II.
