This series consists primarily of correspondence. The records document the activities of the State Safety Coordinating Committee and its efforts to improve highway safety in the state. The work of the Women's Division of the Committee is well documented in the 1960s. The members of the Advisory Committee are listed also. Two prominent topics are drivers' education programs and a motor vehicle inspection law. The latter issue was promoted by the committee from 1965 to 1982. There is considerable documentation for the Annual Governor's Traffic Safety Conference in 1986, 1987, and 1988. These conferences occurred during the gubernatorial administrations of George C. Wallace (1983-1987) and Guy Hunt (1987-1993).
