Frederick Hunt letters, 1898-1899, 1907-1937.

Photocopies of letters and two newspaper articles documenting the life of Frederick Hunt, Minnesota journalist and engineer. Written mainly to his aunt, Josephine Byron, the letters contain reminiscences of his childhood in Brownsdale (Minn.); descriptions of his travels in the Yukon, 1898-1899; and comments on his various newspaper and engineering positions in New Mexico, California, and Minnesota, particularly with the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission (1920s) and the Consolidated Chippewa Indian Agency, Cass Lake (1933-1936). The letters include detailed descriptions of the mining town of Dawson (1898-1899); the Indian tribes found near Gallup, New Mexico (1929); an automobile trip through California (1932); and his honorary induction with his wife into the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe (1934).

These registers were kept under the RRWC's regulatory responsibilities for stockyard rates (1919-1922; see Laws 1919 c461) and for licensing of livestock buyers (1935-1967; see Laws 1935 c216). In 1967 the RRWC was replaced by the Public Service Department (Laws 1967 c864), and in 1974 the livestock regulatory functions were transferred to the Department of Agriculture (Laws 1974 c347). The 1962-1975 RRWC register book was apparently transferred to and used by these successor agencies. ...
