The Bureau of Clinical Laboratories functions to perform clinical testing to detect diseases and perform product tests, such as those for milk and seafood. The correspondence in this series discusses the administration of the following program areas within the central laboratory, based in Montgomery: clinical chemistry, metabolic studies, microbiology, quality assurance (including health care facilities or HCFAs), respiratory disease (such as asthma, emphysema, AIDS-related symptoms), sanitary bacteriology, serology, and the division laboratories in Birmingham, Decatur, Dothan, and Mobile. There is correspondence with the State Health Officer as well.
