Papers, 1886-1893 (inclusive) [microform].

The collection includes letters written and received by Bishop Knight-Bruce. Of special interest is his diary and a report about his journey through the British Protectorate and other parts of the interior, south of the Zambesi, May through November, 1888. The letter from King Khama of Shoshong, granting him permission to travel through his country is included. Also includes some unidentifiable correspondence to "Roderick" from "Mama" and "Papa."

George Wyndham Hamilton Knight-Bruce was born in 1852 into a wealthy family at Keston in Kent. He was educated at Eton and Merton College, Oxford. After recovering from a hunting accident, he vowed to devote his life to God's work. He was ordained a priest in the Church of England in 1876. In 1885, at age 33, he was nominated to be Bishop of the diocese of Bloemfontein, Africa.
