Dennis Searles diary : Borax Lake, Calif.: mss, 1890 May 21-July 4.

Describes Searles' summer vacation at his father's borax mine at Borax Lake in the Mojave Desert. Included are descriptions of the flora, fauna, and climate of the Mojave, and the industry of borax mining, including freight, structure of the mine, Chinese laborers employed at the mine, and the prevalence of fraudulent mining schemes.
