Capt. Nathaniel Henry Rhodes Dawson was born 1829 Feb. 17,in Charleston, S.C. He moved with his parents to Alabama in 1842 and they settled near Carlowville in Dallas County. Dawson was admitted to the bar in 1851. At the beginning of the war he entered the Confederate Army as captain of both the Independent Blues of Selma and the Magnolia Cadets.
