Legal advisors' correspondence files, 1993-1995.

The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. One of the activities used to accomplish this function is the litigating of disputes or other suits in a court of law. This series consists of correspondence and memoranda sent by the Governor or his legal advisors to state departments and private citizens concerning legal issues, cases, and legislation. The records contain information on many of the routine procedures that were followed by the legal staff. There is information on when to use the Governor's seal and the State seal. Other topics include the coat of arms, appointments, leases, legislation, special elections, term limits, legislative process, the Governor's Mansion, the Ethics Commission, the Attorney General's Office, and the appointment of attorneys. The records also contain material on contracts, audits of the Governor's office, notes from cabinet meetings, and form letters. These files were generated or maintained by Ken Dowdy, Linda Adams, Brad Bishop, Jim Meisinger, and John M. Karrh. Most of these files were created and/or labeled during the transition period from the Hunt administration to the Folsom administration.
