Accession case files, 1901-[ongoing].

One of the purposes of the Department of Archives and History is to provide care and maintain custody of official archives and materials bearing upon the history of the state and of the territory (Ala. Code, 41-6-2 [1975]). The Registration Section of the department is responsible for the creation and maintainance of records documenting the transfer of legal and physical custody of collections to the department. This series consists of accession case files which document the act and procedures involved in the transfer of legal title and the taking of collections into the physical custody of the department. Typical records in this series include Archives Transmittal Forms (AF-4 and RM-03/04), deeds of gift, letters of acknowledgment, photographs, inventories, restoration information, special dedication information, and related correspondence. Information in this series includes accession number, provenance, donor/agency address and telephone number, method of acquisition, quantity/volume, list of items in collection, collection dates and remarks.
