Compiled by the Alabama Department of Archives and History, this collection consists of hundreds of cased photographs, including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. The majority are images of Alabama individuals, families, and Confederate soldiers. Some of the photographs are identified, but many are not. Identified individuals include Governor Joshua Lanier Martin and his wife Sarah Ann Martin; Governor David Peter Lewis; and Timpoochee Barnard, a member of the Uchee (Yuchi) people. There are also a few portraits of unidentified African Americans.
