Administrative files relating to parole, 1926-1941.

Applications and recommendations for parole of a prisoner are made to the Board of Pardons and Paroles in order to request that a prisoner be considered for parole. The Board then recommends an action to the governor who issues the parole, pardon, or revocation. This series consists of correspondence and other records relating to the parole process. Documents in the files include statements of sentence, letters requesting parole from both prisoners and families, requests for investigation of a prisoner, letters requesting the return of civil rights, recommendations for parole, letters from the governor's office and the Circuit Courts, letters regarding revocation of parole, notices of publication of parole applications, petitions, and lists of parolees. These records were created by the Board of Pardons (1901-1935), the Parole Bureau (1935-1939), and the Board of Pardons and Paroles (1939-present).
