According to Title 45, Section 49, of the Code of Alabama (1940), in every instance when inmates received corporal punishment, were placed in solitary confinement, or were downgraded in their conduct classification as a result of violating prison regulations, an entry was made in the Record of Punishment book, also known as the Conduct Record. Entries include the name of the prison, the inmate's name, race, sex, serial number, county, offense for which he as punished, the nature and extent of punishment, the date of punishment, and the inmate's revised conduct classification ranking. This series was also created by the Board of Administration (1923-1939).
