[2] 1870, Nov. 23, to "My Friend" : "I do not think it so difficult as you seem to think to find literary employment, but it does not often come in the way you anticipate." Cites monthly magazines that demand short stories of not more than ten pages. Cannot use his talents on the Tribune. Ms. notes on verso read (in part) : "It was addressed to 'H. C. H. Esq.'" [Lower left corner torn away. Tears at fold.].
