Commonwealth Fund archives, 1918-1982.

The Commonwealth Fund archives document the founding of the Fund and its philanthropic activities from 1918 to 1981. One quarter of the collection consists of grant files, which typically contain grant proposals, reports, and correspondence between the Fund and institutions requesting support. Also present are the records of various Commonwealth Fund programs in the fields of mental and public health, medical research, and medical education; annual reports; and financial records. Harkness family papers include albums, clippings, account books, ledgers, plaques, and photographs relating to Stephen V. Harkness, Anna Harkness, and Mary Stillman Harkness.

Max Farrand was born in Newark, N.J., into the family of Samuel Ashbel Farrand and Louise Wilson Farrand.
