A professor of Afro-American history since since 1948, Rhoda G. Freeman taught at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey from 1965 until her death in 1986. She served as dean from 1976 to 1979. Freeman received her Bachelor's degree from Hunter College in 1948, her Master's degree from George Washington University in 1950, and was awarded the Doctoral degree in 1966.
