Kept by T. C. Engum, Director of Rural Education/Schools (1924-1953) and Elementary and Secondary Schools (1953-1963). The files consist mainly of correspondence with superintendents, parents, state and federal agencies, teachers, and other constituents covering such topics as bus liability; transportation statistics and reimbursement data; legality of transporting parochial students and rural school teachers; bus mechanic training; credibility of bus sales companies; bus safety film rentals; bus driver manuals; purchase of buses or bus equipment, especially heaters, safety lamps, and stop order arms; bus accident reporting; and numerous complaints concerning students either not riding or riding the wrong bus, bus route length, unsafe equipment, and non-Minnesota students busing to Minnesota schools.
