Copies of outgoing letters and memoranda of commissioners Donald M. Miller (1979-1980), Charles T. Pinkham (1981-1982), James H. Main (1982-1983), and William J. Gregg (1983-1986). They document all aspects of the daily administration of the department, including funding and budgeting, personnel issues, appointments, investigation of veteran's benefits claims and grievances, operation of the veterans homes in Minneapolis and Hastings, speaking engagements, legislation and implementation of pertinent laws, and relations with numerous veterans organizations. There are also responses drafted to correspondence originally received by the governor.
