Papers of Lyman Spalding, 1793-1820 (inclusive).

Contains some letters; lecture notes and several manuscripts of lectures on human anatomy, surgery, and other subjects; casebook, with diagnosis and treatment of Spalding's medical and surgical cases; copies of his case reports (several published in journals); manuscripts of essays on meteorites, meteorology, and on fevers; an 1813 address on the history of medicine; lists of Fairfield Academy students, with related information on fees, etc.; account book and notes from Spalding's stay in Philadelphia, 1809-1818; and other documents, such as admission cards to lectures of Caspar Wistar; notice of Spalding's plan to create a pharmacopoeia; anatomical descriptions and botanical specimens. Letters are mostly to Spalding from other physicians, including Edward Jenner, and discuss vaccination and other matters. Also two letters from Spalding accepting a position at Fairfield and outlining recommendations for the new medical school there; and concerning treatment of a fractured leg.
