Petition by the freeholders and other inhabitants of the town to the commander-in-chief of the militia, asking him to do all he can to prevent bloodshed in a time of public unrest. Signed by selectmen John Chamberlin, Jr., and Benjamin Huscall.

Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
