Clifford Dyment was born in Derbyshire, England and attended school in Lougborough. He came to London in his twenties having published his first book of poems, First day (1935) and pursued a professional writing career. He worked as a free-lance literary journalist and critic (1934-40); a script writer/director for documentary and military training films (1941-48); and a free-lance writer and broadcaster.
