Oral history, 1989.

Interview conducted by Jessie L. Embry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 28 April 1989. Stephenson talks of his relationship with Mary Hope, a black member of the Mormon Church; and he discusses her and her husband's conversion to that church in the early twentieth century. He explains the problems the Hopes had as Mormons and their children's reactions to their membership. He also tells of Mary Hope's death.
