The correspondence is with Alfred Schlee at Weill's Viennese publisher, Universal Edition (2 letters), David Drew (11 letters), George Sturm, at Associated Music Publishers (2 letters), and Lotte Lenya, Weill's widow (1 letter). It deals almost exclusively with Simon's preparations for conducting certain of Weill's compositions in a concert at Town Hall on 24 February 1963 in a series entitled "Friends of Live Music." The works of Weill performed were the Quodlibet and Frauentanz--though several others were considered in the course of the correspondence (in particular, the Pantomime I from the opera Der Protagonist. In addition to the correspondence, the collection contains: 1) a sheet containing data concerning instrumentation, rehearsals, and budget, and 2) a script of a parody entitled: Das Lehrspiel von Tristan und Isolde: Oper von Kurt Weill / Text von Richard Wagner, Bert Brecht, Caspar Neher, Eric Simon und Hans Weigel ; Musikalische Bearbeitung [von] Eric Simon" [no date].

Born in Vienna, Eric Simon (1907-1994) studied piano from the age of 8, and at the age of 14 he began studying the clarinet with Victor Polatschek, the principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Simon later studied with Polatschek's successor, Leopold Wlach. As a result of the success of his Broadway musical Lady in the dark in 1941, German-born composer Kurt Weill and his wife, the singing actress Lotte Lenya, were able to buy "Brook House," in Rockland County, New York, moving there during their sixth year in the United States.
