Letterbooks, 1785-1822.

Consists of two volumes of correspondence sent by Thomas Perkins to various merchants and other contacts in the United States, England, continental Europe, and China from 1785 to 1822. The letters were written in several different hands. Included are transactions with merchant houses, discussions of China trade, the rules for commerce, recommendations for employments, and invoices for products. Such items as tea, brushes, German toys, textiles, and other commercial goods are mentioned. The second volume was also used to record letters pertaining to the activities of the United States Loan Office.
