ArchivalResource

Weavers' ledger, 1788-1790.

The ledger lists accounts with about thirty individuals, mostly handloom weavers employed in the factory or on outwork. The accounts give payments in cash or kind, plus deductions. The accounts also give the output of individual workers, who were paid by the piece. Fabrics produced included plain cotton, denim, jeans, corduroys, linen, and saddle cloth. There are several references to Christopher Marshall, the treasurer of the Manufacturing Committee, and to sales of cloth through Mendenhall & Cope and Thomas Armat, a member of the society.
