These miscellaneous personal papers of Sophie M. Du Pont include 25 of her drawings which depict clothing, interior furnishings, family activities, and pets (cats, dogs and deer). Also included are 8 poems written by Sophie Du Pont; a list of her trousseau, 1833; an essay, "Our Parlour -- Sketches of winter scenery and amusements", which is a thorough, detailed description of every item and its placement in the parlor of Eleutherian Mills, 1830; letters she wrote to her niece, Sophie du Pont Chandler; a calling card of Mrs. Francis I. du Pont; and her obituary.

I. du Pont was the founder of the black powder manufacturing company, E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. Sophie was raised at Eleutherian Mills, the house that her father built on the bluff overlooking his black powder manufactory.
