These miscellaneous personal papers of Sophie M. Du Pont include 25 of her drawings which depict clothing, interior furnishings, family activities, and pets (cats, dogs and deer). Also included are 8 poems written by Sophie Du Pont; a list of her trousseau, 1833; an essay, "Our Parlour -- Sketches of winter scenery and amusements", which is a thorough, detailed description of every item and its placement in the parlor of Eleutherian Mills, 1830; letters she wrote to her niece, Sophie du Pont Chandler; a calling card of Mrs. Francis I. du Pont; and her obituary.

Sophie Madeleine Du Pont was the youngest daughter of Eleuthère Irénée and Sophie Dalmas du Pont. E. I. du Pont was the founder of the black powder manufacturing company, E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. Sophie was raised at Eleutherian Mills, the house that her father built on the bluff overlooking his black powder manufactory.
