Papers.

Rabbi Grossman's papers are divided into sermon files, ca. 1905-1975, and a group of alphabetical subject files, ca. 1913-1975. The sermon files contain notes for and drafts of his own sermons, as well as information gathered by him such as: texts of sermons by others, letters, synagogue bulletins, newspaper clippings (some in Yiddish), and other printed material. Along with the weekly Torah portions and sermons for the High Holidays, Rabbi Grossman's sermons cover such timely issues as: nationalism, communism, zionism, atomic weapons, Jewish identity, and Jewish education. The subject files contain a mixture of clippings, pamphlets, letters, photographs, and other material. Topics covered include: Camp Tabor (minimally); the Educational Alliance and its People's Synagogue; the visit of Hebrew poet Chaim Nachman Bialik to the United States in 1926; and other topics. Of particular note are several files documenting Rabbi Grossman's trips to Russia in 1936 and 1956. These contain itineraries, notes made while travelling, lectures on the topic of Jews in Russia delivered on his return to the United States, and letters home containing descriptions of what he saw in Russia, particularly Jewish life.
