Charmian Kittredge was born in Southern California and educated at home, developing excellent secretarial skills. A free spirit and devoted traveller, she married Jack London in 1905. The two shared an adventurous life of travel until London's death in 1916. Charmian wrote fiction, travel books, and biography, including the two-volume Book of Jack London. Jack London was born in San Francisco January 12, 1876. He led an adventurous life, only beginning his career as an author in the 1890s.
