McCray discusses his early days as an architecture student and his relationship with the architect Wallace K. Harrison; his tenure under Nelson A. Rockefeller at the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs (CIAA) during World War II; and his experiences as an ambulance driver for the American Field Service (AFS) in Europe and Asia. He describes, in depth, the work of the Museum's Department of Circulating Exhibitions; the formation and ongoing activities of the International Program, including individual exhibitions mounted abroad; and the founding of the International Council. Topics also include the Museum's relationship to the Venice Biennale and the effects of the McCarthy era on the Museum's international activities.
