Diary, July 26 to September 3, 1872, kept by Davis, a surveyor for the Northern Pacific Railroad, while he was a member of an Army-guarded survey crew working from Fort McKeen, near Bismarck, South Dakota, through Sioux Indian country to the Powder River in Wyoming and back to Fort McKeen.
