Diary (Jan. 1-Nov. 20, 1858), reminiscence (undated), and newspaper clippings (1858-1935) relating to the shipwreck in 1858 in Polynesia of the clipper Wild Wave, of which Knowles was master, en route from San Francisco, Calif., to Valparaiso, Chile; a copybook of letters to Capen, Bangs, and Co. of Boston, Mass., owners of the Wild Wave; a logbook of the clipper Expounder on a voyage from Boston to San Francisco, Oct. 1859-Mar. 1860; and an account book (Apr. 17, 1853-July, 1872) for ships in Knowles' charge, including the Wild Wave, Expounder, Glory of the Seas, Kentuckian, and Charger.
