Sir George Biddell Airy was educated at Cambridge and became Plumain Professor of Astronomy and Director of the Cambridge Observatory in 1828. Edward Wedlake Brayley, English topographer and archaeologist. With his friend John Britton, he composed the popular ballad "The Powder Tax, or, A Puff at the Guinea Pigs," which sold seventy to eighty-thousand copies. The pair later became co-editors of The Beauties of England and Wales, a journal on the topography and archaeology of Great Britain.
