Director's correspondence, 1937-1974.

The chronological files contain correspondence of state library directors Lee F. Zimmerman (1937-1947) and Russell J. Schunk (1948-1949), mainly with the state's public libraries, including the Minneapolis and St. Paul public libraries; other divisions of the education department; the University of Minnesota library; the Minnesota and American library associations and library associations in other states; the United States Office of Education; and St. Paul Book and Stationery. There are also numerous inquiries made to the board regarding library positions in the state. The files are arranged first by year; then within each year, alphabetically by city or state.
