Alvord Memorial Commission papers, 1913, 1928-1950.

Correspondence, minutes, reports, and financial records documenting the work of a commission (1928-1955) of the Mississippi Valley Historical Association founded to publish documentary volumes in memory of Clarence W. Alvord, a well-known American historian. They discuss its two published works: Grace Lee Nute, Documents Relating to Northwest Missions (St. Paul, 1942), and Lucile M. Kane, Military Life in Dakota (St. Paul, 1951), and other manuscripts considered for publication. Chairpersons were Solon J. Buck, Lester B. Shippee, and Grace Lee Nute.

Fisk was born in New York of Irish extraction, the eldest of six sons of John B. and Jerusha T. Fisk. He worked as a "raftsman, farmer, carriage maker, and newspaperman" for the Daily Courier of Lafayette, Indiana. Four of his five brothers also became newspapermen.
