Governor's correspondence, 1883-1887.

These letters document the administrative activities of Governor J. Proctor Knott. Included are many requests for printed copies of his famous "Duluth Speech," delivered to congress on January 27, 1871; a number of letters and telegrams regarding the devastating flood of 1884; several invitations prevailing upon the governor to speak; correspondence pertaining to the severe epidemic of pleuro-pneumonia that required many of the state's cattle to be quarantined or destroyed; and a large body of correspondence regarding the Missouri Pacific Railroad Strike of 1886.
