Supplemental nutrition assistance program homeless/destitute files, 1985-1990.

The series contains project files, equipment grant files, and administrative records of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which provides funds to private non-profit programs to alleviate hunger among target populations in New York State. Project files include grant proposals, contracts, budgets, reports, correspondence, and review records for about 50 ongoing projects. The series contains information on soup kitchens and food pantries and their destitute and homeless clientele. The records document the problems of malnourished and homeless individuals and society's response to this problem, and as such they provide rare documentation on the homeless population and programs that serve them.
