Balog was born in Hungary (ca. 1894), learned to sew, and opened a shop near Budapest where she designed and sewed women's clothing; she later worked for fashion stores in Dresden and Berlin. At the outset of World War II, she returned to Hungary and continued to design and make clothing. In 1962 she emigrated to the United States and worked as a seamstress.
