The records consist of four volumes of reports, all of a similar nature. They discuss a wide range of social, economic and cultural trends with the object of helping businesses anticipate and adapt to change. Trends were identified by surveys of ideas contained in current publications.

Weiner, Edrich, Brown, Inc., a futurologists' consulting group, was founded in New York City in 1977. Two of the principals, Edith Weiner and Arnold Brown, had met while working on the Trend Analysis Program of the Institute of Life Insurance.
