Geoffrey Grigson was born at Pelynt, Cornwall and educated at Oxford. Though he published well-received poetry, he was better known as a critic and literary journalist. He was the founder of the modernist periodical New verse, 1933-1939, and wrote books on art, literature, and nature, and edited several anthologies.
