John Raskob was born in Lockport, N.Y. on March 19, 1879. He was educated in the area's public schools and after holding a number of positions as a stenographer and secretary went to work for The Johnson Company of Lorain, Ohio, in August 1900. The American Liberty League was launched on August 22, 1934. The League's board of directors included Irénée du Pont, Pierre du Pont, John Raskob, and Jouett Shouse.
