Alberta Henry was born in Hosston, Louisiana and was raised in Topeka, Kansas. She moved to Salt Lake City in 1949, married Harold Henry in 1950. In 1965, she founded the Alberta Henry Education Foundation, which provides college scholarships to underprivileged students. She was a teacher's aide at the first Head Start Center in Salt Lake City and later became the parent coordinator. In 1972 she became a minority consultant for the Salt Lake County School District.
