The surviving records of the General Manager of the Southwestern Region consist of a small sample dealing with labor relations, particularly during the post-World War I recession. The bulk of the material deals with wages and working conditions and with the workings of the company's Employee Representation Plan (company union). There is also a great deal of information on the strikes o0f the period, particularly the Shopmen's Strike of 1922. Other files describe the company's labor policy, the employment of blacks, and railway labor developments in Great Britain as reported by the company's special agent in Liverpool (1925).
