Diary, 1855-1893.

Handwritten diaries. The earlier item covers the years 1855-6 when Smith served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in Switzerland and Italy. The later volume covers the years from 1864 to 1893 which he called "Journal Book 4." Smith started this record when he was with an emigrant party coming to Utah. He described his activities primarily relating to his businesses, to his family, and to the Mormon Church. Smith related his doings in Fillmore, Salt Lake City, Millard County, and St. George and in other locations in Utah. Many of these entries are brief, monthly summaries.
