This series consists of correspondence, accounting sheets, reports, and other material used to administer the issuance and repayment of bonds by the State of Ala. The state treasurer was authorized by various acts to receive revenues from the sale of bonds and to oversee the repayment of the principal and interest on those bonds. Among the materials contained in this series are correspondence with investment houses regarding the sale of bonds, accounting sheets displaying the methods used to repay the defaulted Ala. and Chattanooga Railroad bond issue and records relating to bonds issued in 1863 to finance the State Military Dept. This series is related to other bond records created by the State Treasurer's Office. Most of this series of records cover the dates from 1863 to 1920.
