Minutes, 1868-1871.

Minutes, 1868 Nov. 9 - 1871 March 8, of the railroad company. In the first meeting the president, secretary, and treasurer were elected. A list of incorporators in the company is included in the minutes of that meeting as is a list of delegates who represented counties along the proposed route. In the minutes of the second meeting is a list of investors in the company and the amount of money each pledged, listed by county, as well as the first board of electors, also listed by county, who were to approve a route for the railroad. Actions and resolutions of the board of directors constitute the bulk of the remainder of the minutes. There is also a President's report of 1868 Dec. 15. Of particular interest was the attempted but unsuccessful (at least through 1871) merger of that railroad with the Selma, Marion, and Memphis Railroad Company, beginning 1870 Dec. 1. Also noted was a survey by the engineer of the route from Memphis to Holly Springs, Miss.
