Discharge orders for county convicts, 1888-1950.

This series consists of carbon copies of discharge orders kept by the dept. concerning the process of releasing county inmates. These are signed by the dept. director and are sent to wardens of county road camps, labor contractors, or wardens of various prison facilities. Each order is dated and lists the convict's name, county where convicted, date of discharge and any remarks. Later volumes also list serial number, race and sex. Registered mail receipts are attached to many pages. For example, on 1932 Mar. 2, C.F. Dodson, warden of camp #4, was authorized to discharge Elisha Stewart of Tuscaloosa Co. He was temporarily parolled by the Governor until 1932 Aug. 15. This series includes records created by the Board of Inspectors of Convicts (1885-1893), the Board of Managers of Convicts (1893-1895), the Board of Inspectors of Convicts (1895-1919), the Board of Control and Economy (1919-2/1923), the Board of Convict Supervisors (2/1923-9/1923), the Board of Administration (9/1923-1939), and the Dept. of Corrections and Institutions (1939-1953).

1888-1931: 34 volumes.
