The Alabama Historical Commission functions to administer the historic preservation program for the State of Alabama, and to promote historical understanding. These records contain biographical sketches, clippings, correspondence, deeds, grant requests, leaflets, legal documents, letters, lists, meeting minutes, memoranda, payrolls, photographs, postcards, project plans, and reports. Subjects discussed include financial information and agreements, conferences, conference registrations, historic preservation, historic sites, historic structures, job applications and several cubic feet of CETA jobs, state owned property and when the Department of Conservation turned property over to the Alabama Historical Commission, archaeology, archaeological excavations, Lurleen B. Wallace Museum (specifically in SG16211) and other museums, the beginning efforts of renovating the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery, and other matters.
